Flowers in Vase

Blossoms crowd the mouth of a vase, petals pressed thick against the rim in daubs of cream and vermilion. This still life by Wojciech Weiss belongs to the Young Poland current, where decorative energy met painterly nerve. Look closer and the structure loosens into touch: stems bend under the weight of heads, leaves flick to a deep bottle green, and the background stays cool and grey so every warm note carries further. The vase itself holds a single unbroken curve, its glaze catching light along one shoulder.
