Flowering Apple Tree

White blossom crowds the crooked boughs, thick as drifted snow caught in midair. Ivan Grohar painted this flowering apple tree with loose, loaded brushwork, each petal a dab of chalk, cream, and faint rose. The surface does the talking. Impasto ridges ride along every branch, the trunk stands dark against pale sky, and the meadow below runs in quick green and violet strokes. Slovenian impressionism grew from wet northern light, and this canopy shows it. Hang it where mornings begin: a breakfast nook, a stairwell landing, a hallway that needs the brief bright weeks of orchard season.
