Flood at Nantes

Grey water climbs the quays of Nantes, swallowing the lower storeys of the riverside houses. Gustave Loiseau paints the flood as a quiet event, boats moored where streets used to run. The palette stays cool: pewter, olive, a slim band of white sky above the rooftops. His short, crosshatched brushstrokes ripple across the surface so the water itself seems to move. Reflections double every facade, broken by current. Suited to a study or hallway where muted, rain-washed color sets the tone.
