Feodosia at Winter

Snow settles over the rooftops and quays of Feodosia, the Crimean port city Bogaevsky knew from a lifetime of looking. Feodosia at winter renders the harbor town hushed under cold light, its silhouette pressed against a pale sky. Whitewashed walls take on a bluish cast, chimneys and minaret-like towers break the low skyline, and the distant hills read in muted violet-grey. Brushwork tightens around the architecture, loosening across the snowfields, where long shadows pool in cool cobalt. The tonality is ash, bone white, and diluted umber rather than the sunbaked ochres of his summer views. It belongs in a study or reading room, where quiet northern light meets a quiet Crimean winter.
