Fecamp

The harbor at Fecamp crowds the frame: masts, mooring lines, and low Norman rooftops stacked behind a stone quay. Gustave Loiseau built the scene in short, deliberate strokes, his post impressionist touch turning grey water into ribbons of slate and green. Look at how the boats sit low against the tide, hulls dark against paler reflections, while gulls scatter as flecks of white above the rigging. Clouds move in broken layers, letting thin light fall on the quay where figures pass as quick dabs of color. The Channel air feels damp and cool throughout. A coastal scene like this settles naturally into a hallway or seaside cottage living room, where its muted blues and weathered neutrals read as quiet maritime history.
