Faces

Masked faces float across the surface, arranged like a constellation of silent witnesses. Faces belongs to the symbolist vision of Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis, where human visages become something closer to cosmology than portraiture. Look closely and the eyes are closed or blank, the mouths reduced to thin seams. Muted umber and slate tones give each head a carved, death-mask stillness, while loose brushwork around the edges lets the forms dissolve back into shadow. Some faces tilt upward, others sink, and the spacing between them feels deliberate, almost musical, echoing the composer logic that ran through everything Ciurlionis painted.
