Exotic Flowers

Tropical blooms crowd the picture plane in Exotic Flowers, where Andre Bauchant arranges oversized blossoms like a gardener showing off his rarest stock. Red petals flare against deep green leaves, each form drawn with the plain, loving exactness of self-taught naive art. Stems stand upright and slightly stiff, the way flowers do when painted from memory of a botanical illustration rather than from a hasty sketch. Flat areas of pigment sit side by side without shadow, giving the bouquet a bright, almost enamel surface. The composition rewards close looking: every leaf vein is traced, every petal edge outlined in a darker tone. Hang it in a sunroom, a hallway, or above a writing desk where its generous blossoms can hold their own.
