Everest

Everest rises alone, its pale crown held against a sky of deep Himalayan blue. Nicholas Roerich painted the mountain as a presence, not a landmark, the summit glowing faintly where thin air catches the last light. Below the ice line the slopes fall away in broad planes of violet shadow, while snowfields read almost white against the darkening sky. Small, distant ridgelines give the vast scale its measure. The palette stays cold throughout, blues layered over blues, warmed only at the peak. It suits a quiet study or a reading nook, somewhere the eye can rest on height and silence at the end of the day.
