Evening clouds

Lavender and ember-colored cloud banks gather over a darkening horizon in Evening clouds, a dusk landscape by Max Pietschmann. The sky carries the whole composition, the ground beneath reduced to a dark seam. Rose and ochre swell into violet where the light fails. The brushwork sits loose and loaded, dragged wet into wet, so one cloud edge dissolves into the next. Below, a low band of water or field reads almost black, its surface catching a last smear of gold. A bedroom or quiet reading nook suits it well, a room where the last hour of daylight gets watched rather than spent, and the sky gets the final word.
