Evening

Rooftops sink into violet shadow as the last light drains westward in Evening, a work by Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva that turns dusk itself into subject. Chimneys and dormer windows stand in silhouette while a narrow band of amber still burns along one roofline. Layered tonal blocks of grey, mauve and deep blue build the sky, the grain of the woodcut left faintly visible in every gradation.
