Eucalypti near Arch Beach, California

Eucalypti rise in loose, silvery clusters above the coastal bluffs near Arch Beach, the subject Benjamin Brown renders with an impressionist brush. Trunks lean inland, silvered bark catching sun, while the Pacific holds a pale blue band along the horizon. Sage green foliage breaks into quick dabs of grey and olive, and dry grass below warms to tan and ochre. The whole scene carries the crisp, salt-scoured air of the California coast. It belongs in a sunlit study or a hallway with white walls, where coastal tonalism reads at full strength.
