Etretat

Etretat: the chalk arch at Falaise dAval lifts its pale span above a sea churned to grey green, painted by Gustave Loiseau with quick, broken strokes. Foam climbs the beach in short white dashes. The cliff face shifts from bone white into cool shadow, its strata suggested by layered touches rather than drawn lines. Above, sky and water press against the arch in a hush of pearl and slate. A living room or seaside study with linen and pale wood suits its coastal calm.
