Entrance to Shambhala

A dark portal cut into towering blue rock. Nicholas Roerich painted Entrance to Shambhala as a narrow gateway in the mountains, the promised city hidden somewhere behind that shadowed opening. Cool cobalt ridges rise in steep, simplified planes, their edges catching a pale atmospheric light. At the base, small robed figures move toward the cleft, dwarfed by stone that seems to breathe. Tempura-like handling keeps the color flat and luminous, blue over blue, so the path itself becomes the only warmth in the composition. Suits a study, meditation corner, or library reading nook where quiet symmetry and deep pigment reward long looking.
