Enlightenment

A lone robed figure leans forward above a dark abyss, one arm outstretched over the void. This is Enlightenment by Nicholas Roerich, his vision of awakening poised at the very edge of a precipice. Snowbound peaks burn rose and violet behind the seeker while the gorge below falls into deep indigo shadow. The drapery flows in cool blues against the luminous Himalayan horizon, and the whole surface carries the tempera softness Roerich favored in his mountain scenes. A study or meditation corner suits its quiet gravity, anywhere a still horizon rewards long looking.
