Early Spring. Birches

Slender birches rise from ground still streaked with snow, pale trunks marked by the black notches no other tree carries. Pyotr Konchalovsky titled it Early Spring. Birches. and caught the melt at its very start. Thick oil paint sits in ridges along the bark, dragged stroke by stroke so the white catches light like real birchwood. Violet shadow pools in the last drifts; bare earth below turns ocher and umber. New buds read as faint red specks against a washed blue sky. Put it where mornings matter: a study, an entryway, a reading nook that needs the cold clean air of a Russian thaw before the day begins.
