Dzong at Evening

A Himalayan dzong sinks into evening shadow, its tapering walls and dark timber window bands catching the last light. Nicholas Roerich painted these fortress monasteries across his Central Asian journeys. Tempera gives the surface a chalky, matte depth: ultramarine ridgelines dissolve into violet air, while the whitewashed masonry holds a pale warmth against the dusk. A narrow path, rendered in dry ochre strokes, winds upward toward the gatehouse. Built for a study or a quiet reading corner, where low lamplight meets those deep blues and the mountains hold their silence.
