Dredger

A dredger strains against grey water, its arm raised mid-haul. Mstislav Dobuzhinsky turns industrial labor into something almost ceremonial, the machine rendered with the care he gave cathedrals. Look closely and the crosshatching does the heavy lifting: ink lines stack into iron plate, rope, and churning silt, while a low tonal wash spreads smoke and reflection across the surface. Figures at the rail are barely sketched, small against the machinery. Suited to a study or a hallway near a window, where the cool ink greys can breathe against plain walls.
