About this work

Draft for Wall Decoration in the Living Room of the Apartment in Berlin Stonborough

Stylized stems and symmetrical blossoms climb a quiet ground in this Koloman Moser draft for wall decoration, a living room scheme drawn for an apartment in Berlin Stonborough. Gouache and ink lay flat planes of grey green, dusty rose, and ochre inside a loose grid. Gold contour lines trace every stem, while petals reduce to circles and simple ovals, geometry keeping nature at a disciplined Secession distance. The pencil underdrawing still shows at the edges. Made for a living room, the design reads just as well in an entryway or study, where its ordered curves give plain plaster something to answer.
