Dorf mit Kirche im Bergell

Stone houses gather around a slender church tower in this Swiss village view. Cuno Amiet painted Dorf mit Kirche im Bergell as a cluster of pale facades and steep roofs pressed against the mountainsides of the Bergell valley. The tower rises at the center, its belfry picked out in darker strokes while surrounding walls stay chalky white and warm gray. Roofs tilt in russet and slate, orchard greens break the built mass, and the peaks behind hold cool violet shadow. Brushwork stays loose and loaded, color laid on thick where light strikes the masonry. Suited to a study, hallway, or living room where landscape and architecture set a calm, alpine note.
