Die Brücke in Rügenwaldermünde

A timber bridge stretches across the harbor channel at Rügenwaldermünde, its dark spars cutting a hard diagonal over pale water. This Arthur Segal composition renders the Pomeranian coastal town in bold, simplified planes. Hulls moor below the span while gabled houses cluster behind quays in muted ochre and blue-gray. Segal, known for expressionist geometry and later mosaic experimentation, breaks the harbor into flat color blocks, sky pressed in swaths above rooftops. Hangs well in a hallway or study where its angular lines and harbor subject read clearly from across the room.
