Der gelbe Hügel

A hill rises yellow, its flank built from thick oil paint, grass pushed into daubs of gold and amber under a wide sky. Der gelbe Hügel by Cuno Amiet, a Swiss modernist landscape at full burn. The brushwork stays loose, deliberate. Short strokes stack cadmium over ochre until the slope seems to hum. Green shadow runs along the crest, a scatter of dark trees anchors the ridgeline, and the pale blue sky holds flat and untroubled above everything.
