Deluge VIII

Waves coil across the whole surface, each crest drawn as a lit, serrated ridge against deep ultramarine water. Deluge VIII belongs to the deluge series of Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis, where flood becomes pattern. Look closely and the tide reads as layered tempera-like washes: cold indigo depths under green-grey foam, small golden arcs riding each swell. No shore, no boat, no survivor. The water fills every edge, rhythmic as sheet music, and Ciurlionis gives each curl the same careful contour he gave his cosmic sonata skies. The effect is closer to an orchestral score than a seascape. Suited to a study or a reading nook with low lamplight, where the rolling blues can settle in and take over the wall.
