Deluge (V)

Water climbs the slopes of the world in Deluge (V), Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis vision of the flood as an orderly catastrophe. Peaks become islands. Everything else is gone. Pale washes of blue and grey dominate, laid down in thin, patient layers. A small vessel rides the swell at a careful distance, dwarfed by ridgelines rendered in soft charcoal strokes. The sky above holds a muted gold light, thin as parchment. Clouds press downward like a second sea, meeting the first. Suits a quiet study or hallway where its cold, holy stillness can be absorbed at length.
