Deluge IV

Twin peaks rise from a drowning world, floodwater coiling around their bases in sinuous bands of blue and grey. Deluge IV belongs to Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis great cycle on the biblical flood. Look closely and the water reads as pattern rather than chaos: rhythmic contours stacked like contour lines on a map, drawn in the tempera-fine handling that marked his Symbolist work. Small figures gather on a height at upper right, dwarfed by the scale of the deluge below. It suits a quiet study or a hallway where light falls evenly, letting those layered blues carry the wall without competing for attention.
