Deluge (III)

Waters close over a drowned town in Deluge (III), a Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis vision of the great flood, where one bell tower still rises above the swelling sea. Indigo and viridian water fills the lower register, flat as poured ink, while a pale moon hangs over spires that sink by degrees. The tempera surface stays matte and chalky, contours ruled with the clean geometry of a composer who thought in lines. It suits a study or reading nook, anywhere lamplight runs low and the deep blues can pull a room toward quiet, seaward thought.
