Deep Snow

Snow buries the tenement yards of Berlin, and Baluschek records every hush of it. Deep Snow turns the working city white, its rooftops and factory chimneys softened under a thick, grey-blue blanket of winter. Look closely and the details surface: laundry lines sagging between buildings, a lone figure trudging a rutted lane, smoke rising thin and dark against the pale sky. The palette runs cold, leaden whites and muted umber shadows, brushed with the blunt honesty of German realism. Suited to a study or hallway where winter scenes and city subjects feel at home.
