Dartmoor Farm

A granite farmhouse crouches beneath its tor in Dartmoor Farm, a Devon moorland scene Harry Phelan Gibb worked up in chunky strokes of moss green and wet slate. Dry stone walls zigzag across tussocky pasture, and outcrops behind the buildings stack into flat, tilted planes. Paint sits thick on the surface, impasto ridges of ochre and peaty brown catching light along hedge tops, the roofline, a bruised grey sky. Hang it in a study with worn leather chairs, or a stairwell landing, anywhere that could use a dose of west country weather.
