Cypress-House

A tall cypress anchors the composition, its dark column of needles pressed against a whitewashed house. Thalia Flora-Karavia built the whole picture around that vertical contrast, dark tree and pale wall holding each other in balance. Brushwork moves quickly across the surface. Sunlight sits on the plaster in thick, chalky strokes while the cypress is worked in layered greens so deep they read almost black at the core. Windows register as small, cool rectangles, and the ground carries ochre and dust tones that warm the lower edge of the scene. Suited to a hallway or a quiet reading corner, where a single vertical subject can hold its own against plain walls.
