Crimean Landscape (My Crimea)

Cypress spires climb a terracotta hillside above a deep blue southern bay in Crimean landscape, the picture Pyotr Konchalovsky claimed as his own and titled My Crimea. He loads the brush heavily and works at speed. Impasto ridges catch light along each needle-dark trunk, whitewashed walls glow ochre under midday sun, and the sea runs from shallow turquoise to a slab of ultramarine. Violet mountains stack behind like quarried blocks. A sunroom, stairway landing, or dining room in linen and rattan suits the heat of it; the blues hold firm against chalky plaster and pale wood.
