Crimea. The cliffs

Chalk-white cliffs drop straight into the Black Sea in Crimea. The cliffs by Ivan Vladimirov, their pale faces cut with shadow and streaked where rain has run down the stone. The eye climbs the sheer rock wall first, then the water below, deep green turning to slate where the shelf of rock juts outward. Salt wind has scoured the ledges bare. A thin path threads along the top edge, barely more than a light seam in the limestone, and the sky above it sits heavy and pale, giving the whole scene a cold, salted air. Suited to a study or a hallway facing the light, where the cool palette can hold its own against a plain wall.
