Cypress spires climb dark and narrow toward the jagged ridge above Alupka, the southern Crimean shore rendered by Pyotr Konchalovsky in Crimea. Alupka. Foliage goes thick and buttery where the brush loads cypress green into heavy vertical masses; beyond them the sea lies flat, a plane of ultramarine under midday glare. Pale stone of the old estate catches the light, terraced garden beds running hot with ochre toward the water. A sunroom or stair landing suits its dry heat, any room where the eye craves coastal sunlight through a long northern winter.
