Cottage in Kuntsevo

A timber cottage with a pitched roof anchors the scene, its log walls catching afternoon light across a Kuntsevo garden. Pyotr Konchalovsky gives the house the same gravity he gave his fruit: solid, weighty, unapologetic. Thick oil strokes stack the timbers in ochre and umber, every log a loaded plane of paint. Shadow pools green beneath the trees, a picket fence runs crooked through the foreground, and clouds churn overhead in buttery whites. A study or reading nook suits it well; the mossy greens and weathered browns pull a Russian summer into rooms that could use a window onto the countryside.
