Corn Stacks

Golden corn stacks cluster across the field in Algernon Talmage painting, their rounded forms stacked heavy with harvest weight under a wide English sky. Talmage builds the scene in short, loaded strokes of wheat ochre and straw gold, the thatched domes catching low light along their curved flanks while cool grey blue shadows pool beneath. Brushed oil handling shows in the layered impasto, where ploughed earth in raw umber runs toward a hedgerow of muted green and the clouds above drift in loose cream passages.
