Construcciones Programadas

Grids of gold and black lock fish, suns, and clock faces into ordered compartments across the surface of Construcciones Programadas, Joaquin Torres Garcia at his most rigorous. Every square is ruled. Ochre grounds sit beneath ink-dark lines, each cell holding a single symbol: an anchor, a vessel, a triangle. The scaffolding of the universal grid reads almost architectural, ruled like a blueprint yet painted by hand, warm gold pressed flat against matte black in the manner of the Montevideo constructive school. A study, hallway, or creative studio suits it, anywhere ordered geometry and quiet symbolism can hold their own.
