Compassion

Two figures stand together beneath a bare branch, a mother drawing her child close in Yamamoto Gempōs Compassion. The title itself carries the weight: daihi, great sorrow, the mercy a parent feels watching a small one stumble into the world. Ink and soft washes carry the scene. The mothers robe falls in deep graded greys, the child small and pale against her knee, both rendered in the flowing Nihonga line Gempo learned from Kano training and reworked for a modern eye. The branch above cuts a single dark diagonal across pale paper. Hang it where quiet matters: a reading nook, a bedside wall, anywhere the day slows down.
