Coastal Storm

A gray swell breaks against dark headland rocks in Coastal Storm. Granville Redmond sets the whole sky into motion, cloud banks dragging low across a water surface churned to lead and slate. Salty haze sits between the headland and the shore. Foam whitens along the crests while deeper water turns charcoal and gunmetal beneath it. Light escapes in one narrow band where the clouds thin, catching the troughs in cold silver. Brushwork runs with the wind itself, short and angled, and the palette stays almost entirely gray-green with touches of oyster white. Strong in a study or stairwell, where its low light and heavy air give a quiet counterweight to bright rooms.
