Cloud

A single cloud drifts low over an empty mountain slope, its pale mass dominating the sky while the land below falls away in quiet bands of blue and grey. This is Cloud, a Nicholas Roerich work in his unmistakable Himalayan register. Cool cobalt gathers in the distance, then thins to chalky white and slate along the ridgeline. The brushwork is tempera-flat, layer over layer, the way thin mountain air flattens depth. Roerich lets the cloud carry all the weight; no figures, no shrines, just atmosphere pressing on stone. It belongs in a study or reading room where a window faces north.
