Cliffs in Normandy Evening

Chalk cliffs shoulder out of a darkening sea, their faces flushed rose and apricot as the last light drains off the Alabaster Coast. Gustave Loiseau built this Normandy evening in small, deliberate strokes of oil, the way he built all his coastal landscapes. Look at the water first. Deep violet and slate green churn beneath the headland, flecked with short horizontal dabs of cream where the tide catches the dying sun. The grass on the clifftop burns amber against a sky graded from gold to a cold grey blue. His crosshatched brushwork gives the chalk its crumbly, eroded texture. A seascape like this suits a hallway or a study that faces west, somewhere the last hour of daylight still matters.
