Cliffs by the Sea

Chalk cliffs plunge toward a restless sea, their pale faces streaked with ochre and shadow. Gustave Loiseau sets Cliffs by the Sea against a sky scoured clean by salt wind. Crosshatched strokes stack like masonry across the rock, a lattice of cream, rose and slate that lets the white ground flicker through. Below, the water breaks into short choppy dabs, green grey near the base, brightening to foam where the swell meets stone. A study, a stairwell landing, or a coastal cottage sitting room would carry it well, anywhere that wants a breath of cold Atlantic air.
