City

Rooftops and domes of a hillside town press together under a deep blue sky in City by Nicholas Roerich. Stone walls catch pale light while shadowed lanes fall away toward the distance. Roerich paints the cluster in cool blues and slate with warm ochre glinting on walls and cupolas. Brushwork is flat and firm, each rooftop a deliberate shape, the horizon dense and quiet.
