Cherry Trees in Blossom

Cherry trees lean into bloom across the whole picture, their branches tangled with small white flowers. Victor Borisov-Musatov painted springtime as a hush rather than a burst. The title tells you the season; the surface tells you the feeling. Look closely and the petals dissolve into dabs of pale rose, cream, and soft grey green. Trunks rise in muted violet and umber, their bark worked with visible, tender brushstrokes. Behind the blossom, a hillside garden fades into a milky haze, air and light mingling where the branches thin out. Nothing is sharply drawn. Everything breathes. A quiet corner of a sunroom or bedroom, where morning light lands softly, gives these blossoming trees the calm company they ask for.
