Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossom sprays tilt across the composition, petals loaded on in thick oil paint until every cluster reads almost sculptural. Pyotr Konchalovsky gives the flowering branch the full weight of a still life subject. Blush pink petals carry dabs of deeper carmine at the tips, set against bark laid down in short dark strokes of umber. Buds still closed in green sit beside flowers fully open, the impasto thick enough to catch real light. A sunroom or breakfast nook suits it best, somewhere morning light can pick out the ridges of paint the way spring air once moved through the orchard.
