Cassis. Sea

Blue water owns the whole bay, deep cobalt under the cliffs going pale toward the stone quay. Konchalovsky let the open water take most of the picture and titled it Cassis. Sea. Moored hulls rock along the harbor in short strokes of black and rust red, while Cap Canaille rises behind in stacked planes of ochre and burnt sienna. Paint sits thick on the surface, dragged in broad diagonals so the water reads as solid and moving at once. A seaside house reading room, a stairwell lit by late afternoon, or a study with weathered oak shelves would suit its salt air and open blue.
