Carmel Shore

Foam slides up a pale crescent of sand while low bluffs hold the last warmth of the day. In Guy Rose Carmel Shore, the Pacific turns a greened silver under thin, high cloud. Rose loads his foreground with wet sand and broken reflections, each wavelet edged in cream and lavender grey. Distant cypress darkens the headland at the right, a small punctuation of near black against the hazy sky. The brushwork stays loose and quick, plein air painting at its most direct, salt air almost visible in the scumbled surface. A quiet room suits it best: a reading nook, a hallway bench, anywhere that wants the smell of a cold coast and a long exhale.
