Carmel Shore

Foam slides up a pale beach while cypress and pine crowd the bluffs above. Guy Rose painted Carmel Shore as a study of coastal air, where fog thins the sunlight and every color cools by a half tone. The surf line runs low and white, broken by dark rocks that catch the strongest light on the canvas. Above the sand, wind bent trees lean inland, their foliage a gray green set against soft blue sky. Small dabs of lilac and ochre describe the wet sand where the tide has just pulled back. A quiet seascape suited to a bedroom or reading nook, where its cool coastal palette keeps the light even and calm.
