Carmel Hills

Golden slopes fold toward the sea in Carmel Hills, a Californian landscape by the American impressionist Guy Rose. Sun-warmed ridgelines and scattered Monterey pines settle into the coastal haze of the Monterey peninsula. Ochre, sage, and pale gold carry the middle ground, while Rose breaks the brushwork into short, flickering touches of violet shadow and cream light. The sky washes to a soft pearl grey at the horizon, and the hills hold their warmth against it. A quiet living room, study, or hallway suits its calm rhythm, especially beside linen, oak, and other warm natural textures.
