Carmel Dunes

Wind-carved dunes roll toward the Pacific in this Guy Rose view of the Carmel coast. Grassed sandhills rise in pale gold and green, their crests bleached nearly white by salt air. Rose builds the slopes from loose, sunlit strokes of cream, sage and soft blue, letting bare canvas flicker through like light on dry grass. Beyond the last ridge, a strip of sea holds a cool horizon line, and low scrub darkens the hollows between the hills. A quiet coastal scene suited to a bedroom, sunroom or hallway where soft California light and open sky set the tone.
