Caliacra

Sunlight flattens against the Black Sea coast at Caliacra, the headland rising pale and dry from a band of deep blue water. Stefan Popescu gives the cliff face real weight, built up in short ochre and bone-colored strokes that catch the light along every ridge. Low scrub clings to the slope in dry olive greens, and the sky above sits nearly white, pushing the land forward. The water is not one blue but three, shifting from slate to cobalt where the shelf drops away. It suits a study or a reading room, somewhere the horizon can hold your gaze between chapters.
