By the River in Autumn

Autumn lays its copper and russet along a quiet riverbank in this riverside scene by Gustave Loiseau. Poplars thin out, leaves drift, and the water carries the season in slow moving reflections. Loiseau painted with small, deliberate strokes, building foliage out of dotted touches of orange, ochre and fading green. The river surface breaks into short horizontal dashes, catching pale sky between the trees. A path or bank edge pulls the eye into the middle distance, where soft violet and grey haze settle over far fields. A calm, thoughtful scene for a study, reading nook or hallway where the muted warmth of the season can anchor quieter walls.
