By the River Eure

A towpath bends out of sight where the Eure widens, and Gustave Loiseau sets his easel almost at water level. Ducks cross the current. Poplars line the far bank. Loiseau paints in small, restless strokes, greens and pewter greys laid in short dashes that catch the light along the ripples. A stone bridge crosses midstream. laundry lines and tiled rooftops sit behind the willows, and a pale sky presses everything toward reflection. Suits a study or a hallway that needs quiet, something with moving water in it.
